Observation of Nepal Local Level Elections, 2022
Democracy Resource Center Nepal (DRCN) observed the local-level elections held on May 13, 2022. It mobilized 70 observers in 54 local levels across all seven provinces for the observation. They observed the political environment, election preparation, candidate selection and nomination, election campaigning, voter education, the voting process, and vote counting. Due to a lack of adequate training among polling staff, and errors in voter lists and identity cards, the voting process was disorganized. Similarly, many votes were invalidated due to the lack of voter education programs, and complicated ballot paper. Vote counting was slow as there was a shortage of counting staff and a lack of understanding about the counting process among them.
